Initial situation

Multiple deliveries are arriving daily at the incoming goods department. The employees check the received goods using lists on paper which are transferred to an ERP system later where they are signed and archived. This often leads to transmission errors.

The employees at the incoming goods department often don't know which delivery it is they have to deal with. This has to be figured out using the documents of the driver, a tedious task. Only then the relevant order will be printed. All of this costs valuable time.

The delivery will already be identified in the reception area and marked as received in the ERP system. A delivery gate will be assigned to the driver and the shipment is sent to the tablet of the responsible employee. Thus he knows what he has to expect before the gate even opens.

The goods pass the RFID reader. The individual RFID tags are matched to the corresponding order codes immediately and cross-referenced with the order.

The delivered goods are listed individually in the Industrial App. After carrying out a visual inspection the employee is ready to sign the delivery. Inside the ERP system the state changes to "received".

Technical solution

Using the graphical programming of Workflows, any external system can be integrated into the IoTHub. Thus the ERP system of the enterprise was connected with the IoTHub.

The decentrally located RFID reader was connected to the central IoTHub on the company's own server with the aid of an edge controller and its data can be read directly in the IoTHub.

The IoTHub is thus the interface between the RFID reader and the ERP system - with an Industrial App free of charge. The data converge in the IoTHub and are displayed in its integrated Web Interface as well as in the Industrial App - individually for the employee. The employee at goods receipt immediately sees the ordered and delivered articles, performs a first visual inspection and then digitally signs off the delivery directly in the Industrial App. The delivery is then booked.
